Hello! I have been amazed at the helpfulness of all the people on this forum... what an amazing resource! After skimming pages of posts though, I would love to hear what specific answers people may have about my situation.

I will be working in San Mateo and my husband will be working in the North part of the city (Near Divisadero & California, Presidio Heights I think is the district). At this point I think we would rather live on the peninsula (for warmer microclimate and less housing expense), but what suggestions do people have on where to live, specifically regarding commute? I read/hear conflicting opinions on whether the traffic is worse into or out of the city. Where is the first place south of the city where you exit (for the most part) SF fog? Thanks everyone!!

If you choose to live anywhere in-between, it's not going to be hugely problematic commute by bay area standards. I drive from SF to Redwood City every day, a friend of mine commutes to Cupertino. Another friend used to work in San Jose and live in Mill Valley (I have no idea how he did it). If you really want sun, you need to stay south of San Bruno. I would look in Millbrae, Burlingame or San Mateo. I don't believe it will be any less expensive, though. If budget is your main concern, I would look in South San Francisco, Daly City or Brisbane.
