Is the san mateo county more conservative than san francisco? socially speaking i assume it is since its mainly just suburbs, while san francisco is a big hippie/hipster town. But is it politically more conservative as well?

Got a faimly friend who practices law and teaches the paralegal program at SFSU, he says that his clients always get more time for crimes that get a slap on the wrist in SF.

Pretty much anywhere in CA is more conservative than SF. San Mateo is still a liberal county however.

If you go there expecting rural Texas you'll be disappointed.

Oakland and Berkeley are to the left of SF.

A lot of upper class families live in San Mateo. Housing is more expensive in San Mateo than in San Francisco - that should explain a lot.

Barely.

However, compared with most of CA and certainly most of the US, San Mateo County may as well be the People's Republic of Las Pulgas.

Yup, agreed. I have lived in San Mateo for 30+ years. We aren't a sanctuary city like SF, but that's about it. I might add that the area is not near as nice as it used to be as a whole.
