OK what is going on today?

Amazingly the Chronicle covered occupy SF and the destruction they are causing: Protesters trash Mission District businesses, cars (http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2012/05/01/BAQF1OBH55.DTL&tsp=1 - broken link)

Another set of Occupy annoyers is in downtown Oakland wasting police resources: Protesters trash Mission District businesses, cars (http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2012/05/01/BAQF1OBH55.DTL&tsp=1 - broken link)

This SFGate commentor has it right:

Quote:
Until the movement disconnects itself from the crime tourists who attend their events, the only thing they should be Occupying is the jail. ” by john_in_oakland
Can the "crime tourists" find another region to occupy?

I can't find a job or I don't want to work. The government is obligated to provide me with all my human needs.

Too bad we live under capitalism.

They've long gone from possible catalyst for actual change to haven for anarchist losers. Progress or die.

I'm totally sick of them. I used to be 100% behind their message, but now it's just a bunch of losers that aren't doing anyone any good and forcing the "99%" to pay for their destruction, cleanup, and extra police.

I stopped listening and supporting them back when they blocked the Port of Oakland preventing the "99%" from getting to work and being able to get a paycheck for their pickups/deliveries.

I had this discussion with one of the Oakland Occupy folks. I said bluntly that they can't squander this opportunity. They have the attention and even switched up the dialogue for a bit of time but if they end up getting taken over by criminals and people who just want to break things, well, it's going to fail.

I told her now is the time to apply for permits, organize task forces, align with nonprofits and communities that need them, etc. and get away from camping out in parks.

I told her about the time I was in NYC and Occupy was out. They blocked the City Hall subway station that day, so workers couldn't get home. They also blocked traffic up in Harlem and that blocked a bunch of kids who were trying to get to a nonprofit after school program. When Occupy starts interfering with the average person rather than helping them, game over. Too bad they don't see that.

Know what would really really be neat? If everybody was as sick of the oligarchy of the 1% as they are of Occupy ... Just sayin'

Somebody please explain to me how economic justice will be achieved by stopping traffic, looting, trashing government offices and destroying private property.

I don't know. Someone who lives in Oakland once posted on this very messageboard that the Occupy Riots aren't any big deal and usually are only contained to 2-3 blocks, otherwise it's usually business as usual.

I guess they are a bit more of a nuisance than originally thought.

Somebody please explain to me how the strangulation of the majority of citizens of this country and the world by oligarchy of the 1% will be stopped -- by any means / methodology.

That is the question.

Focus on the irritations of the Occupy movement rather than on the rape and pillage, scorched earth lifestyles of the rich and powerful?
