I'm planning a move to San Francisco in a couple of months. I'd love to live in a place that has the following:

-Close proximity to a number of vegan/vegetarian/organic restaurants. My fav place in the city is Cafe Gratitude so anywhere I can live close to a variety of places like that would be awesome.

-Close proximity to a good yoga studio or two. I've been spoiled living in Santa Monica as it's the capital of good yoga. But I know SF has a lot of good stuff too.

-Close proximity to public transportation and ZipCar/FlexCar. Probably won't have a car but will need to get back and forth from SFO/OAK and also down to the South Bay.

What do you think the best places would be for this?

I would say Mission, Castro, or Duboce Triangle. I live on the Mission/Castro cusp (I guess it's called Mission Dolores). I'm about 5 blocks from the 16th Street BART station and about 5 blocks from the Church Street MUNI Metro station...perfect location for public transport.

You can find that stuff just about anywhere in SF... but my first thoughts for you are Noe Valley, North Beach, SoMa, Mission, maybe even Lower Haight (a sketchy but cool area). All depends on your budget, though, since these range in prices. I listed them from most expensive to least, if that helps any.

Btw, there's a very popular vegetarian restaurant downtown, at Market & Larkin... my ex-boss always raved about this place, but I haven't tried it yet. Anyway, you might want to check it out when you get here - Ananda Fuara Vegetarian Restaurant (http://www.anandafuara.com/index.htm - broken link)

Noe Valley is also a good choice and its not to far from the 24th Street Bart.
