Hi, my husband and I (native southern Californians) are moving with our three kids from the Temecula/Murrieta area to San Ramon. We both grewup closer to the coast (San Diego & Santa Monica) so we are looking forward to living somewhere cooler again.My husband already has a job up there and I am a stay-at-home mom. We have never lived in the Bay area, only been there on vacations. I am looking for area info, especially kid friendly things to do. Our kids are 4,10 & almost 13. I also am looking for information on colleges and universities in the East bay area because I am looking to go to school in the spring to get my master's degree and teaching credential. Thanks!

Ooh... San Ramon is nice, but it certainly isn't going to be "cool". I'd say San Ramon, Danville, and Dublin are all extremely hot during the Summer (think mid 90s to 100s). The weather is actually very comparable to Temecula, or parts of Riverside County.

Check the weather forecast for this weekend. The high for San Ramon is predicted to be 99 on Saturday vs. 81 for Temecula. For cooler weather stick with the peninsula and reverse commute.

If you want cool weather, move closer to the Bay. Move to SF or try the Penninsula. San Ramon is a great area, but gets hot in the summer as it is considered an inland area.

Yesterday it was about 105F in the San Ramon area (better today). On the news, they showed it still being 96F at 8:30 at night. But that's pretty rare!

Temecula, on the whole, is warmer than San Ramon. But I think if you're planning for SR to be measurably/noticeably cooler than Temecula you might be disappointed. The East Bay is MUCH warmer than San Francisco. I have many friends in socal who think we constantly live amidst fog, drizzle, and 60 degree temps here in the greater Bay Area. I live in Lamorinda and our weather couldn't be more different than that. The East Bay is warmer and I liken the S-680 corridor (San Ramon/Danville/WC/Alamo) to parts of socal in terms of look and weather. I think many socalers think of the Bay Area as far cooler than socal, and in some areas I would agree, but not the EB. Now, Lamorinda (also in the EB) does have cooler temps than the 680 corridor... 5-10 degrees cooler on average. It's more expensive than SR, but if you're interested in this area and want cooler weather then perhaps look into this area. Berkeley/Oakland/Alameda (definitely cooler) are areas that are QUITE different from Temecula, so you might want to pinpoint, other than weather, what it is you're looking for in a new home town.

"Lamorinda" is cooler, and a little more expensive, but you're also closer to the city, nicer parts of Oakland, and the inner East Bay in general where I think a lot more things are happening. The 680 corridor overall is very suburban, and quiet. If you're into that, it's great. But it's a bit farther to get to all the action.

If you have to live close to San Ramon, Dublin is actually a few degrees cooler than San Ramon, Livermore and Pleasanton. (Usually 3-5.) Castro Valley, on the other side of the hill from Dublin and San Ramon (2 different hills) is around 7 or more degrees cooler than either place.

San Ramon, Dublin, and Pleasanton are all very nice places to live (I lived on the border of Dublin & Pleasanton for three years). Weather-wise, they are quite hot in the summer and lots of folks would flock to SF on hot days to cool off. The winters were amazing - I'm from the midwest and they always felt like an extended Fall season with lots of misty mornings and lots rain. Loved it!

Not so sure Orinda is cooler than Moraga. Moraga usually is cooler than both Orinda and Lafayette and oftentimes foggier or the fog takes longer to burn off. The difference is maybe 5 degrees or so (so, not much). I've lived in Lamorinda for close to 25 years (on and off) and have found Moraga to be the coolest part of Lamorinda. But really, this is getting away from the real post a bit
Castro Valley is definitely cooler than the Tri-Valley area (SR, Pleasanton, Dublin, Livermore).
OP-- are you looking for something similar in lifestyle to Temecula? Livermore is HOT in the summer, but great temps other times of the year and probably is closest to Temecula in "feel" and lifestyle.
