for real? Western Addition is the projects? It borders Lower Pacific Heights! And besides maybe Hunters Pt, there are almost no dangerous places in San Francisco! This thread makes it sound like Oakland. People say how bad tenderloin is, but I've been there a couple of times at night, it's mostly a bunch of homeless/mentally ill people. They never did anything but ask me politely for money. Pretty much 80% of San Francisco is as safe as 20% of Oakland.

What does LPH being nearby have to do with there being projects in the Western Addition? Have you really never taken the 5 or the 31 through Hayes Valley? There's projects right in LPH (Westside Courts) for that matter.

And if you don't know the City well enough to know about the huge jumble of projects in the Western Addition then chances are you don't know it well enough to be making statements like "there are almost no dangerous places in San Francisco!" either lol.

How large is this area, because I've been in Western Addition/Japantown/Lower Pac Heights a lot. I didn't see any of this. And I've lived here for years now and I think I've been to a diverse set of neighborhoods and I've never been hassled or even felt in danger in SF. Due to work I've walked alone at 2 in the morning on the streets in downtown, nothing much going on.

The projects run on Eddy/Turk from Laguna to Divisadero, Golden Gate/McAllister/Fulton from Gough to Fillmore and Grove/Ivy from Laguna to Fillmore. There's also some projects on Buchanan between Page and Haight.

In other words they take up a large chunk of the Western Addition.

When I moved here, late 2011, there were pretty frequent shootings in that area.

Admittedly, it was just guns being fired. No one ever managed hit anyone else.

That seems to have quieted down, lately.

Go down Scott, Turk, and Eddy. You can't miss it. Big ol' project there. Pretty ghetto. You seriously have no idea it was there while living in SF?

I totally did not. I've walked at least very close to those areas and never noticed. It looked better than some parts of the Financial District and lower nob hill. I've been to the Fillmore, Yoshi's etc and didn't see anything.

So much for that streak. Fatal shooting at Fillmore and Geary.

(As all the commenters note, that's not Japantown like the article claims. But it's definitely the Western Addition.)
