I was referring to the kind of crimes the poster I quoted was talking about (rapes and robberies). I'm aware that Maxwell Park/Millsmont/Eastmont Hills (and most of East Oakland for that matter) all have their share of property crime... unfortunately thanks in large part to the OPD stupidly announcing to the public that they don't respond to property crime these days, it's made criminals here a lot more brazen than usual when it comes to B&E.

It is. IMO it's one of the three best places to get a burger around here. The other two being Ahn's by Lake Merritt and a place inside the Emeryville marketplace.

Why haven't I tried these places.... my dad told me Ahn's sucked.....but you never know about my Dad. He could have confused it with something else.......

I liked Trueburger, but it went downhill after being on Check Please. Chop Bar and Plum Bar are tied for fancy burgers at the moment.

Well these burgers aren't fancy, just good. They taste fresh is the thing. But perhaps there are burger places I've not yet tried. Before I moved to SD, the main local places for burgers was Nations and 1/4 Giant burgers. I believe these are better. Perhaps your dad may have not like how greasy Ahn's is. They are greasy but tasty.

One of my favorite upscale burgers in Oakland is Sparky's right off of the Redwood Rd exit on Highway 13. As far as good run-of-the-mill burger joints go though, Emil's in Fruitvale Village is pretty good. My all-time favorite used to be Adam's Burger on Lakeshore but they went out of business.

EDIT: @ Gentoo, supposedly there's a good burger joint right by where you are on 61st & MacArthur called Fat Burgers & Wings. I haven't been but I've heard good things about it.

Is 1/4 Giant Burgers still around? I used to go all the time to the one on MacArthur near High Street.

I heard KwikWay shut down years ago. I loved those little burgers.

And I am old enough to remember Toddle House on East 14th and Seminary and of course Doggie Diner.

My brother and his family lives in Berkeley now (off Sacramento) so I think it's time for me to plan my trip back home. This talk of burgers is making me hungry.

I'll check it out. I think I've passed it once or twice maybe.

That 1/4 is still there. Just North of High st. In Berkeley the Smoke House is ok. Burgers are rather small though. It's on Telegraph not far from the Oakland city limit.
