Is there really any surprise there is huge mistrust of the police. Southern cops are the worst in terms of racial profiling and racism. And with the roots of OPD being the least sympathetic possible roots, there is a long history of "f the police." They have made it pretty clear they don't care about certain types of people.

OPD didn't do city residents any favors when they said they are too under-resourced to respond to burglaries/robberies and the like.

Let's also not forget the Occupy riots. There is still a multi-million dollars lawsuit pending because of how Oakland PD conductive itself during the riots.

Yep

There are other newer things I can't find from both SD and Seattle. Few large police departments are without problems especially those where officers were cut.

Ya there was a case recently in Philly were a cop was stealing guns and selling them, said he got hooked on drugs and got into debt

I would of hated to be a OPD during the Occupy Riots, Jesus Christ, I have a family member who is ex law enforcement, and I just can imagine being a grown man proving for his family and remaing calm while a select few of the protestors are just talkin smack that doesnt even make sense, spittin on ya, vandalism every where.

Its alot easier to hate cops than to be a cop

You like the effectiveness of the undersized OPD now? Wait until you force a certain percentage to live in Oakland - that will grow the force . . .

You know, a friend of a friend's husband was called in from Redwood City PD to occupy. I wonder how many of the offenders were actually OPD vs from neighboring cities.

Anyway he said it was scary, and of course it reinforced his opinion that Oakland is "dangerous." It is a good thing we have dragged him to Fentons a few times to see another part of Oakland.

Yeah Troll Really. I saw Pleasant hill PD, Orinda PD, Berkeley PD all out there. Considering you're nowhere near Oakland you're not in any merit to speak on anything Oakland.

Do you really think OPD is the only police force with Bad Apples? C'mon now.

As the article insinuates, most OPD doesn't live in Oakland. And we all know OPD is understaffed. They brought in resources from other parts of the Bay, that are very similar to the same communities that were criticized in the article for being unlike Oakland. These officers were likely very inexperienced with the sort of atmosphere of Occupy on that day. Low experience = poor reactions.

Really jade? It was Redwood PD that are responsible for the poor reaction to the Occupy protesters and the now looming multi-million dollar lawsuit (which Oakland will probably lose btw) ?
