Or off the x-box either, really.
I meant, hate studying technology, not playing with hi-tech products.

You might also consider the relatively weak protection for intellectual property there. However, the Chinese are starting to get that piracy/counterfeiting actually hurts their own industries and are looking to bolster IP protection. Taiwan used to be the world's product piracy captial years ago - you could get cheapo knockoff textbooks for a few dollars. Now they're very good about protecting IP and policing copycats.

Yeah, I'd hate to be the engineer that approved those specs.

They use a lot of migrant workers from the country side who are very poor, then they also DO not pay them until the work is finished. This is way you have have such a rush on jobs and no one caring about safety. The Mainland Chinese mentality is also developing like the economy. Also keep in mind Chinese do not care about human life as we do in the states.

I am sure the construction on the new Bridge is solid.
There is a very common 4-character Chinese proverb/saying "tou gong jian liao" which means to skimp on workmanship and materials. This saying is often applied to a wide variety of goods and services, ranging from engineering/construction projects to common consumer goods. I guess it is a common human mentality to try to cut corners to save money or earn profits - so oversight is really necessary.

The old generation has a different mentality too.

My parents, for example, experienced difficulties when they were young and they won't throw away anything "usable".
However, I throw a lot of things "ugly". lol
