My Ex-GF was from mainland China and told me about the construction projects.

They use a lot of migrant workers from the country side who are very poor, then they also DO not pay them until the work is finished. This is way you have have such a rush on jobs and no one caring about safety. The Mainland Chinese mentality is also developing like the economy. Also keep in mind Chinese do not care about human life as we do in the states.

I am sure the construction on the new Bridge is solid.

The new bridge connecting Vladivostok with Russky Island, where an international Asia trade conference was held right after the bridge was built, is doing fine, but a section of freeway approaching the bridge collapsed. Putin was in such a hurry to get the bridge completed in time for the conference, they rushed through the project. But they got the collapsed section of roadway rebuilt in time.

The reason bay bridge is built by China is because US as a country no longer has the technology expertise and construction capability to take on such a large project. If you cant build it yourself then you have no choice but to accept what you can buy from someone else. If you travel internationally you will notice immediately how outdated and dilapidated US infrastructure has become.

FYI those broken bolts were built in US!

Unfortunately this is reality for America and many others. Core knowledge are being lost in many fields because we dont have an intrest on doing the "dirty" work or prefer to outsource it to a lower cost country.

Also I find it hilarious in the link that many of the commenter failed to read and comprehend the article before blaming it on china.

American kids hate science and technology (except medicine, maybe).
Relatively smart ones go for business, law and medicine; others usually study useless, "easy" subjects such as communication and psychology, not to mention women studies, art history etc.

In contrast, 70% Chinese college students study science and engineering. Many top universities in China require calculus and physics for ALL students too, including those who study Chinese literature.

yet despite the large numbers of chinese students studying science and engineering China is not known for tecnological and scientific innovation.a result of the emphasis on rote memorization i suspect.

the best system would be to combine the innovation and free thinking of the USA with the focus on science and engineering of China.

Maybe because their parents are living in the Dark Age and insist their progeny do the same.

The rest of our society prods them to be hedge fund managers.

I can't get my kids noses out of their smartphones or off the computer to inquire if they hate technology.

Or off the x-box either, really.
