Hi all,
I have a big cyst around my lower wisdom tooth. It is very close to the lingual nerve and also the bone is almost gone.
I have been referred to Dr Anthony pogrel for surgery. I have read on the internet that he is the best in the field. But somehow did not have a good feeling when i visited him for consultation. I am really concerned abt the state of affairs at the UCSF clinic. I am not sure if my surgery will actuallyt be done by Dr pogrel or some student?
It appears Dr pogrel is super busy , if anyone has had any experience , can you tell me was he avaialble when you had questions/ issues to discuss post surgery?
Please share your experience if any.. it will be of great help. I am terribly scared since i m at risk of jaw numbness and fracture( Dr said risk is 10% and more)
Please let me know if you have had such a surgery with any other surgeon and your experience..

Thanks,
SJ.

This link:

Medical Board of California - Physician/Surgeon License Search

lets you look up CA physicians online.

Plugging in "Pogrel" for last name, nothing for first name and "San Francisco" for county pulled up this record:

Michael Anthony Pogrel, M.D.

Hope this helps.

I think that you should see a Periodontist at once, since you describe loss of bone and that cyst sounds like periodontal disease which would explain the loss of bone tissue.
I once had a similar experience after a visit to the dentist for a root canal, I had a cyst on my lower left molar and I went to see this periodontist by the name of Dr Meta or something like that, he is or was located on Mission Street between 20th street and 23rd street. I don't know if he is still there but he did surgery and scraped all the disease off the bone, it was painful after the pain killers wore off because you can feel the bare bone after surgery. But it's worth it, get yourself some good sativa weed to smoke for the pain, it works wonders.

Hi SJ - did you ever have the procedure done by Dr. Pogrel?I am in the same situation with "high risk of permanent numbness" as my wisdom teeth roots are wrapped around the nerve. Appreciate any input on what you ended up doing/outcomes.

Thank you!
