If it becomes law of the land... I'll make you some t-shirt bags. I promise.
Very kind offer and it might come to that...

I do have one bag and I even paid for it.

It's the black Ghirardelli one where anything that fits into the bag is 15% off at the Ghirardelli outlet in San Leandro.

Yes, but that causes the bags to wear out earlier and, of course, using a washing machine consumes electricity and water, and spews sudsy water into the environment.

And now sfgate.com is starting to report the truth about the misguided bag ban:

Freak'n libertarians and anti-government types.

If they had their way, our skys and waterways would still be used as cesspools and we would have toxic dumps in almost every city.

Labels are completely irrelevant. We should not blindly accept government "solutions" to minor or nonexistent problems where the result is more sickness, wasting of resources, and increased pollution.

I will continue to avoid, if at all possible, businesses that are hampered by this senseless legislation.

What does toxic dumps and cesspools have to do with grocery bags?

I wash my clothes every week, they take years until their literally falling apart. The same goes with a reusable bag. Would you rather die from a bacteria or buy a new bag every year or so because you wash it weekly or every 2 weeks?

Most Americans wash their clothes every week, throwing it in with the wash on a hot cycle isn't going to cost anything extra.

We just have whiners on here.

Also -- the reusable poly bags hold up better if you do not dry them in a dryer.

Before we had environmental regulations, many corporations used our natural resources as dumping grounds.

I don't know how old you are, but the natural amenities of this country were being destroyed. The libertarian crowd were opposed to any sort of environmental regulations that would deter business. Richard Nixon eventually signed the EPA into existance.

I worked long and hard hours in volunteer efforts to clean up the Hudson River. When I was in HS, in order to be on the rowing time, we had to have painful typhoid shots. By the time as was a senior, we no longer had to have these shots A small victory in the right direction.

The plastic bag ban is a minor inconvenience to some people, and a better for the environment (among other things)

Strange coincidence you mention environmental volunteerism...

I too was a volunteer and our project was to save the virgin forest by urging people to use plastic instead of paper bags...

We presented petitions to the store managers urging them to help save the trees.

Never once have I just tossed a grocery bag into the landfill... they are re-purposed or recycled.

This was also the time of books like the population bomb and the coming Ice Age...

I also have been a regular at Earth Day and a stream and creek volunteer in my city...

Don't come across bags in the creeks I clean... mostly broken glass bottles, shopping carts and bicycles...

Since the 50's we have had emission regulations in California and the Vehicle Code provides for a citation for smoking vehicles.

Could very well have been different on the East Coast...

Does New York presently ban plastic garbage bags and make customers pay for paper?
