Umm, hate to break it to you but those East Oakland homes are not in good areas of the city. Poor schools, not so great safety. The last one is zoned to Oakland High School (rated a 4 out of 10 on greatschools.org).

Lol at Glenview, Laurel or Reservoir Hills being bad areas of Oakland. Bad compared to what? Lamorinda? Oakland is a city. A C-I-T-Y. If you want wealthy homogeneous suburbia then move to wealthy homogeneous suburbia. Cities have city issues.

Most newcomers rent apartments.

You arent breaking anything but wind.

Oh by the way since you refuse to answer the question Ive posed to you already three times, I'll ask it again: So does this mean you would rather live in Compton than ANY of those areas of Oakland?

He's from Orange County and knows nothing about Oakland or Lamorinda except what he sees on the internet.

Anyway, Glenview(where I grew up) is a great neighborhood:
Exploring Glenview «

Anyway, Glenview is part of the Lower Hills District, which to me is actually more interesting than the more affluent districts because they are more densely populated and more diverse and far more physically integrated with the rest of the city.

I made this chart a while back:

And most of these areas are out-of-reach in the 300K-400K range.

Let's see:

Oakland High School: Rated 4 out of 10
Brett Hart Middle School: Rated 2 out of 10

Horrible schools, and not worth it at those prices. No one is going to pay $300,000 to $400,000 to send their kids to schools full of drugs, gang members, and teachers who don't care when they could actually rent in an area with actually good schools.

2 out of 10? For crying out loud...

Which is why they go to Edna Brewer Middle School (7 out of 10) instead Anyone who's been to Glenview and thinks they know enough to call it an "unsafe neighborhood with poor schools" would know that it has the best public middle school in Oakland. In other words, why didn't you know that? Hmm.

Umm, a 7 is not worth $300,000-$400,000. Sorry.

Actually, that seems to be about the going rate as far as public middle schools go. Hercules Middle and High School both scored 4/10s and it costs about 300-400K to live there. Pittsburg Senior High School and Rancho Medanos Junior High scored 4 and 3/10 respectively and it costs 200-300K to live there along with a terrible commute to anywhere interesting. San Leandro High School and Bancroft Middle School scored 4 and 2/10 and SL's a 300-400K city. In fact, you have to about double the housing prices from Oakland's in Bay Area suburbia before you find middle schools on Edna Brewer's level. Apparently 300-400K in Oakland is a steal.

Well, Hercules, and Pittsburg have far less overall crime than Oakland. I wouldn't exactly call Oakland a steal.

You could have a 10 rated high school, but if it's surrounded by daily gang violence and drug trafficking, I doubt anyone would consider it a good place to live no matter what price.

Would you care to point out the "daily gang violence and drug trafficking" in Glenview, Laurel or Reservoir Hill?
