Does the area have hard water like down here in So Cal, where a lot of people have water softeners, or is that a non-issue?

Thanks! Jules

The places with hard water are the South Bay, much of the North Bay, and anywhere in the East Bay not served by EBMUD.

Well water = hard water. Surface water = soft water.

You've stated you are looking at the North Bay and East Bay. Realize that you are going to find the reality of crossing bridges to get into the City a potential issue. Do not underestimate this. Again, have you looked at all in the City itself, as well as the directly adjacent inner suburbs (aka San Mateo County)?

Thanks for the water explain! I was praying there was softer water than here!!

I work from home, so I won't be traveling anywhere except local stores, etc. Hubby will be working in the Financial District (I think that's where it is) and will take the BART back and forth.

Right now we're focusing on nice towns that are close to the BART stations.

HUGz! Jules

I've lived in SF and Oakland and water there is WAY softer than in the LA area. Here in Long Beach it is annoying how difficult it is to get soap off your hands even with hot water.
