For whatever reason the most active shooting season is when the weather warms up in Oakland. Correlation?

Correlation does not imply causation.

Exactly. During the Spring/Summer, Oakland homicides tend to spike.

Shrug, that's what I said in song.

Everyone knows wintertime ya hunker down inside for the most part, and get to it when it warms up, for criminals this means crimes.

The total homicides are less than last year to date though. Clearly behind trend, and unless it speeds up significantly it shouldn't pass last years hopefully, even when accounting for the expected rise when it warms up.

Well Oakland did pay $250,000 to bring in a former Los Angeles Police Chief.

They should get SOMETHING back for their money.

Yup, that's 24% less for an entire quarter, which is very positive.

No one is celebrating, but it is very good news.

Will you please decide if you think the Bratton hiring is a good or a bad thing?

I can't do that yet. He's been on the job for what... 3-4 months?

So far he's done okay by reducing crime by doing what he did in L.A. The gang raids in February were effective. But he's got literally 20% of the resources that L.A had (even with Federal Marshals and CHP helping), and he's working with a local government that seems to make EVERY WRONG decision.

I think Bratton is bringing a lot of his skill that made Los Angeles have the lowest violent crime rate for a major metro 3 years in a row, but with Oakland he's dealing with a different animal.
