Is the beginning of the much-hoped-for tech bust, or just an indication of the fact that no one quite seems to know what Twitter is for?

Much hoped for tech bust? I can see there are some who want to see it bust so the rents can go down or stop going up, or retaliate against the techies. But wishing for a tech bust is not a good thing either.

I would call it a potential Twitter bust, not a tech bust. Social media has always gone through cycles, peaking in popularity then crashing, as with AOL and then MyFace. facebook is continually changing to try and keep relevant but the popularity with senior citizens and parents of teens has turned away younger people. Twitter has become very commercial with corporations, news media, and celebrities using it and it may too be losing some of the appeal it had when it was fresh.
Something else will come along to take it's place, no doubt.

There are plenty of people in SF who loathe techies and are praying for another bust. I hasten to add that I am not one of them, and I'm not a techie either. But clearly there are people who would be thrilled if Twitter were to cease to exist -- and just when Mid-Market is finally about to turn the corner and become something other than the South Tenderloin.

What a dumb thing, Twitter. It's only use seems to be in fomenting revolutions in developing countries. It could maybe be funded by the Department of State.

I'd love to see twitter go belly up. I don't use it but occasionally, just for fun, I can look online at someone who does....and I'm embarrassed for them. Especially the ones closest to me. One guy I know has posted about getting his haircut every 3 weeks for a year and averages 8 posts a day about nothing. How many times can you tell the world you're at Starbucks? Granted, some of this is pulling off Foursquare (another time suck IMO) but why people are so anxious that they have to post their every movement to the world I'll never know.

It's like an addiction.

Twitter is not going bust. It has a lot of long term potential. Twitter is not a place where you ramble in 140 characters, but rather a new medium of news delivery. Think about all the breaking news that surface in twitter first.

I agree. People who use twitter like Facebook drive me crazy. People who use twitter to deliver breaking real news is the prime reason I am on twitter.
