Which is fine.

There's nothing wrong with living life on the edge to earn your stripes, but don't try and church it up by calling it something it's not. And don't for a second think that $500 to live in a laundry room is a 'good deal'. Might as well go 'full on' homeless and live in your car if you aren't willing to pay a few hundred bucks more or live a few miles away to have liveable quarters.

I could only dream of living in a car. I lived in a rolled up Sunday edition of The Chron and counted my blessings every day. Others had it worse....

Why not just live across the bridge in the East Bay?

Do VCs think your vapor ware is more valuable if it's produced in S.F?

Even the young people with money in SF are pretty much living in laundry rooms... It can be fun and adventurous when you're young. But it's a very transitory and temporary lifestyle. Been there, done that, total over it now. At some point you have to make it big or else just grow up and develop a reasonable semblance of a life elsewhere.

You're only young once, I have no problem with someone going all-in on a dream. Worst that happens is you fail and have to get a real job.

And I understand why a 20-something kid doesn't want to leave the bar/club early to make the BART train and schlep out to the East Bay. At that age, you should be closing down bars every night and sobering up while walking 10 blocks home with a burrito.

It's no different than living 2 to a room in a flophouse when you're trying to put yourself through school on student loan money. Besides, a little white noise can be nice when you're trying to get to sleep. But I like privacy, too. When I moved into my first apartment, the feeling of liberation was indescribable.

i don't think the east bay nightclub scene is anywhere as developed as in san francisco.
driving over the bay bridge "altered" at 3:00 in the morning is not good for anyone

Of course it isn't, but that doesn't mean that you can't do the same things (stay out drinking until 2am and walk ten blocks home with a burrito) in the East Bay.
