mod cut - orphaned

SFGate is a "great" source for Oakland news, but a poor source of SF news, as it regularly ignores similar incidents in its namesake city. But most media outlets in the Bay Area do cover Oakland fairly frequently, albeit in a one-sided way.

I have co-workers in Europe that call because of a news story about Oakland they heard in Germany...

As to Law Enforcement... that is now in the hands of the Feds.

Oakland has been under this agreement for many years.

Maybe, we need a return to local Chiefs that were born and raised in the Bay Area...

Remember as a child visiting the Police Station when Chief Heart was in charge... his kids went to the local schools and his wife taught school in Oakland... in other words he had a vested interest in the community and was accessible on many different levels as opposed to someone that is here on assignment...

I don't know... just my thoughts.

As to charges... isn't that the purview of the County DA?

the explanation is pretty obvious if you think about it
that the man killed was killed by a different caliber firearm than the weapon found on the suspect.

The District Attorney is the one that files charges if charges are to be filed.

The District Attorney works for the county and not the city

What has been said would have to apply to the entire Alameda County if that is the assertion

Meet the District Attorney - Alameda County District Attorney's Office

Well SFGate has to prop up their front page real estate listings somehow.

Doesn't really matter - they should charge based on what they can convict. He's going to be locked away for a long time.

Isn't there still a big issue getting people to work with police? The child rapist that killed a few officers before being killed was celebrated....I don't love the police but that makes no sense to me. The problem isn't law enforcement or the legal system (although it does need work), it's the community.
