Too late - word's out that Oakland has much more to offer than mega-hyped crime.

Yup

Now we have an influx of hipsters who crowd all the bars on the weekend and rents are going up- Two unwanted side effects of gentrification that even negative press can't stop

Oh well. They're surely not to be feared. And less annoying than yuppies. When the Marina starts exporting its minions across the Bay, then you have problems.

Wouldn't they be exported across to Marin? Surely sweater vests and boat shoes fly over there.

I'd actually welcome more yuppies than hipsters at this point. They tend to have much more money than Hipsters, which translates into big fixes in schools. crime, etc.

Careful what you wish for. Ask the good citizens of Santa Monica what happened to their town .

I don't know. Hipsters these days are doing pretty good. A lot of them are in high paid tech jobs. There are hipster art students too. But it is probably 50/50.

I have lived here in Oakland for two years now. Having moved here in 2011. And I have yet to experience or even witness any trouble. Save on the News. Oh and I happen to live in west Oakland. So far its no worse than down town Iowa city Iowa. Frankly I am more more concerned about hipsters etc moving in and causing prices to go up on everything. A little gentrification is fine. As long as it dos not displace everyone else.
