Hi,
We're moving to SF area from the east coast and we have two boys. Older one is going to middle school in Sept 2013 and younger one is going to second grade.

We're looking between Hillsborough and Burlingame. Between Crocker Middle School in Hillsborough vs. Burlingame Intermediate School, which one is better? and what is the culture for both schools?

We'd also like to find out about elementary schools in Burlingame vs. Hillsborough. By looking at the Greatschools.org, it doesn't seem like all schools are equal in Burlingame school district. Which one has better reputation and higher academic standard?

For Hillsborough elementary school, I heard South Elementary School is the best. Is it true? How about the other two?

I'd appreciate if anyone can share their thoughts on this topic. It will be very helpful for us to learn from people who have been living in the area and have children attending the schools.

Thank you!

If you look at API scores, they're both really good. Hillsborough is probably better, which you would expect since everyone who lives there is wealthier than Midas.

Depends upon what you consider "best". Based on API, Franklin is always highest, followed by Lincoln. Both are excellent schools.

Is it true that children might allocate to Burlingame schools district with certain Hillsborough address because they share the same zipcode?

No. Here is the Burlingame school district "what school do you attend" list based on address. Burlingame School District - District Boundaries

If you note, some streets are assigned to Hillsborough or San Mateo or Millbrae schools....that is because the home is on the boarder between two cities and actually is not in Burlingame. Some streets have the odd numbers in one city and the even in the other, so one side of the street would attend School District A, and the other side of the street would attend School District B. Kids who live in Hillsborough are assigned to schools in Hillsborough, if their home is actually in Hillsborough. The key point is to make sure your home is actually in the city you want your kids to attend school at. Zip codes are not used for school assignment.

Adding: If you have ANY DOUBTS whatsoever about school assignment, call the school district.

No, you have to call the Hillsborough School District office. The schools do have boundaries, but they are not posted on their websites.
