Hi everyone,

this weekend(9-10 March) me and my hubby will be in SF because of a job interview that will probably allow us to move in the next month or so. I can't wait! I so hate the city where I am now (Miami btw)

Anyway, I need your advise guys...we have so little time but so much that we would like to do. Of course once we will relocate we will have plenty of times to go everywhere, but in 36 hours that we will be in SF, we want to taste a little something...

We are ok with what to do during the day but...at night?

Do you have any website where you usually go and see what concerts/parties/anything nice is happening in SF?
Or maybe you have any suggestion for something you know is happening in SF?

We are in our 30s and we like crowds, but even quieter places, we love music, we love to socialize and try new things. So basically, anything would suit us!!

So....any suggestion?

Will be waiting for your answers!
(Thank you in advance)

xxx

Chiara

I'm not much of a nightlife guy, but no one else has responded, so I'm afraid your first answer will come from a local early bird.

The events page at SF Gate: San Francisco Events & Entertainment - SF Gate

at S.F. Weekly: San Francisco Events and Entertainment Calendar | SF Weekly

and at the Bay Guardian: http://www.sfbg.com/listing/18

That should get you started.

I hope you get another answer from someone who paints the town red more frequently. Good luck!

I visited Miami last year for the first time. You guys have Ultra in March at least. There is no equivalent to Miami Beach in SF. Plus houses are a fraction of the cost in Miami. Bet you won't miss the summers though.

Hi Angus,
Of course and we have wmc too. And I am a dj and I will play there, so I do like it. But that's it! Apart from this, there is nothing else appealing in Miami.

A fake city with a ridiculous development plan, only skyscrapers, downtown has nothing but offices. The weather is awful in the summer. Winter doesn't exist. Miami Beach is full of people, here in retirement. You can go to South Beach for some fun, but you will mainly meet young guys and girls, drugs and excessive behavior. No really fun for anyone. Too little job opportunity, and half of them are only if you speak Spanish too. Which makes you think, because you thought you were in the US.

I am probably forgetting some more things, but I suppose it is enough to explain

Chiara,

Miami has an average cost of living so you will be shell shocked here. Here, if you want to buy a house in a safe neighborhood and near work, you are looking at the 150/150 rule. 150,000 household income and 150,000 savings. Even for renting, I advise greater than 100,000 household income for a decent neighborhood.

If you want a comparable lifestyle in Miami as here, you will have to make about 50% more than you did back in Florida. Miami is 108 and SF metro area is 161 (and even higher for city proper):

The food is better and the weather is a lot better for a reason. Not a huge step up in nightlife.

Thank s Angus, I knew that I need to earn much more, so I am looking to double my current income, if possible.

What really matters to me is the lifestyle, which I find terrible in Miami.

Lookinf forward to be there on Saturday. Btw, do you have any advise for this Sat night?

And..thanks a lot for sharing with me, I really appreciate it. I really need someone that can give me a prospective which is different from what I can experience from here.

Check out the new SF Jazz center if you are into that sort of thing. They usually have great concerts. Another resource is the online magazine 7x7. They have info on what's going on in the city. Finally, there is yelp too.
