Why cant they just keep it as is?

They noted the fact that there have been previous efforts to rename the airport, and that it will probably come up again," Yakel said.

Former San Francisco Mayor Joe Alioto, U.S. Rep. Tom Lantos, and most recently San Francisco Supervisor and gay rights pioneer Harvey Milk have been among those brought up as potential namesakes for the Bay Area's largest and busiest airport.

The SFO Airport Naming Committee will establish a set of policies and guiding principles for the naming or dedication of SFO, but they will not decide what the name should be, Yakel said.

Let them waste their time if they want. It's the money part that's truly objectionable...

I wouldn't be surprised if the name becomes SF "Oracle" or "IBM" airport or something they can sell or rent out. The SF airport commission finished major construction of the Int'l terminal and people movers at the end of the dot com era and then 9/11 hit. Just when things started to turn around for them the recession hit them again. I think they are still bleeding copius dollars of red ink.
