It's probably correct. Forget about finding an apt. for $1000. $1500-$1800 would be about right. Keep looking, sometimes you can find a good deal. Budgeting is important, that first year will be the challenge. But if you pay around $1700, that's about $20K for housing in one year. It still leaves you plenty to work with for other expenses. Estimate about 27% in income taxes, federal. I don't know about CA state income tax.

When will you be arriving?

Do you mind if I ask what religion you follow?

Also, once you're here, after your first year if the pay doesn't improve, you can apply for other jobs in the area, while continuing with your original employer.

An August arrival will give you time to register the kids in school, before school starts.

You may have already done this research, but I found this: Muslim Community Center of East Bay (MCC)

Is 90k is a good salary for family of four?
No and No and No. It is not a good salary for a family of four in United States.

To answer some of the questions,

My office is in Livermore so preference will be to rent a 2 bed apratment in the same City.

I will be the only earner for my family. My wife will taking care of child at home, at least we can save child care expenses

I will get salary raise each year. Hopefully it won't be 90K for a long time. I hope so

I am planning to buy a used car with the budget in less than 5k.

Thanks Again
you should consider living in tracy and commuting to livermore. it's about 30 miles away and you and your family will live well with the VERY REASONABLE REAL ESTATE PRICES.
you will have to buy a better car but the living expenses will more than make up for it.

He should be able to get a decent Toyota with plenty of life left in it for $4000-$5000.

Living in Livermore is completely different than San Francisco or Silicon Valley. I lived and worked in Livermore. You will be able to live fairly comfortably in Livermore. We liked Livermore a lot.

Are you an experienced Software Engineer? The salary they offered of $90k is pretty low for a Software Engineer in the SF Bay area, especially if you have experience. The median salary for experienced Software Engineers is $138k in the area. I made $150K as a Software Engineer in Livermore 12 years ago.

OP says he tried to negotiate a better salary. I thought maybe 90K was starting pay...

Maybe his employer has decided he doesn't want to pay the local market rate for talent....?

In Livermore it's absolutely possible. I think a lot of people who are saying you really need $150,000 spend much of their money on unnecessary things. I'm a single mom, and I lived in a very nice apartment in Walnut Creek, with no subsidies or housing help, and only earned about $35,000 a year. With $90,000 you should be just fine.
