San Mateo St & Santa Cruz Ave Richmond, CA 94804

Is this a bad neighborhood to live in?

El Cerrito area is OK, well outside of the iron triangle and some of the houses have spectacular views of the Bay Bridge. Unfortunately this spot just has a view of the beautiful Eastshore Freeway.

I think the area is called "Point Richmond", but its kinduva rock to the east one finds the ghetto and the chevron complex and then on the bayside, you have a mini-Sausalito of sorts. Very nice homes with spectacular views indeed.

$2,690,000
3 Bed, 4 Bath
4,463 Sq. Ft.
0.13 Acres

Bottom line is, if you've got the money, then you can live in a great house with a nice neighborhood to boot-even in somewhere as villified as Richmond. After all, this is still the Bay Area and Richmond's location is as good as gold.

sonarrat is correct - it is near El Cerrito, it is not in the Richmond death zone, and it is very close to a major freeway. There are certainly nicer places to live. 18montclair is not correct on the location (the San Mateo St. - Santa Cruz Ave. intersection is not in Point Richmond). He is correct that Point Richmond is a very nice neighborhood (a rarity in Richmond) with great views.

Im not talking about that specific location but rather Im pointing out that Richmond is not a total loss despite the doom and gloom that most cast over the place.

I live 2 blocks away. This is a great neighborhood - quiet, friendly, diverse, generally working class. This is the Richmond Annex neighborhood - kinda like living in Berkeley but a lot less expensive. Richmond public schools are another story so if you have school age children, try to find a place in Albany - a few miles away but much better public schools. Good luck!
