Hello everyone,

I'm new to the Bay Area and the BART contract disputes with its workers and unions are a little concerning to me. It appears if there is a strike, which has been authorized, many commuters will be left without much of an option getting to and from work. Any of you guys concerned? Whats alarming to me is that AC transit may follow as well. Hopefully they can settle this without striking like in the years recent.

My opinion - and my apologies in that I'm not too educated on the matter - is that Bart workers have it pretty good, but obviously the unions job is to reach for the skies in negotiations. What are your thoughts?

Traffic is going to suck if they go on strike, I am glad I have next week off.

Not the end of the world here. Watch out for that Bay Area influenza that will pop up for about a week during the strike, while all those "sick" people stay home and catch up on Game of Thrones episodes.

This has happened before, and the buses were ridiculous. Not too many people have sympathy for BART workers, even pro-union folks like myself, yet they always seem to get what they want.

Haha, well luckily I have next week off too! Can't catch the influenza here :-) but anyway apparently the union just gave notice of a possible strike. I'm not sympathizing with them as well, it appears to me as if they're the ones not bargaining in good faith. But I don't know too much on the situation myself...

I am not sympathizing with the workers at this point.

This is why I really dislike unions. Which have way too much power here. Having come from a right to work state. Where we never had issues like this. Bart should fire the workers who don't show up. And hire workers willing to do the job! Same with garbage, police, fire and any other vital city service. Its one thing for the workers of say Apple to go on strike. Its a whole different matter when an entire city is shut down by a garbage or transit strike. If you don't like the pay? Then don't apply for the job! This is extortion!

I am sure there are thousands of people that would thank God to have their jobs at current salaries and benefits. I say fire every person that doesn't show up to work.

Unions are really not needed in this day and age. The workplace should be all managed by the free market.
