I am a recent post-graduate student trying to move from FL to SF in Aug. My current plan is to get to know the city while looking for a job there when I'm there. I've tried dozens of room share ads on Craigslist, but they either require a meet in person or were freaked out by the phrase "looking for a job" although I guaranteed that I am financially stable and willing to pay 3 or 6 month rent upfront.

I'm wondering what has to be done for those relocating to SF to secure a shelter before they are physically there. Or do we all have to spend our first week in a hotel room? Can anyone offer any suggestions or strategies for new comers. Very much appreciated!

Someone recently shared this website, where people rent out rooms in their homes, sometimes for just a night. I'm going to assume it's cheaper than a hotel. Anyway, check it out:

There are hostels in SF, too:

vrbo.com is another place like Airbnb.com

I'd REALLY suggest getting here seeing a places in person before commiting to a long-term lease. Some places look really nice in their ads, but you'll find the neighborhood is scary, or has really bad street noise, etc.

Do not commit to any rental / roommate situation without checking the place out first, especially if you're using Craigslist, which can be rampant with scammers.

As someone suggested above, try airbnb or another alternative, perhaps a sublet.
