Any opinions on living in San Bruno? We are a young couple with 2 cars and 2 dogs looking to keep housing/parking/bills between $3k (preferred) to 4k. I was thinking its close-ish to the fun parts of the city but not sure. One of us will be working at the airport and the other mostly in the city. Thanks!

Default San Bruno

Most of San Bruno is fine, its kind of a blue collar family town, so its nothing fancy, but not bad either. The only areas to avoid would be east of El Camino Real - i don't think its dangerous, but its kind of run down and more industrial in parts. Also check the flight path of planes out of SFO, given its close proximity, if you're directly below the path, planes overhead are VERY loud (particularly around Tanforan).

Also if weather is a concern, the area around and northwest of the 380/280 interchange are very foggy.

Yes, east of El Camino Real isn't dangerous - just older, more crowded (houses closer together on some streets, apartment buildings next to single family homes, more cars, and just a couple of blocks from their downtown area on San Mateo Avenue, which is coming back to life), and the streets are so narrow.

But lots of nice areas of San Bruno, too. I really like the area around San Bruno Park.

And so easy to get to the Airport. If you get employee parking it's just a short drive (minutes!) and if you take BART and get on in San Bruno, you get off at the very next stop. Just a perfect commute!

So do you feel that it is also an easy commute or drive to the fun parts of the city? For going out, entertaining friends in town, shopping? Are there any 30 something singles living in San Bruno?

All points true!

Same applies to South San Francisco. Very similar to San Bruno.

Same also applies to nearby Colma and Daly City, although they straddle 280 and not 101.

Yes, getting to the city is normally easy. However as far as "fun parts", depends on your definition- the yuppie neighborhood (where some hot spots are) is the north end of the city, and a pain to get to, but other parts of the city are much easier that also have a lot to offer as far as things to do. Downtown is very easy, as you can take BART, and getting to the ballpark (baseball) is easy to get to using Caltrain. Note, that parking in some parts of the city can be extremely difficult. I used to live in Millbrae just south of San Bruno and I could get to my friends house in Noe Valley neighborhood faster then someone who lived on the other end of the city.

San Bruno probably doesn't have many 30 something singles, I can think of a couple of condo complexes that have some, but mostly San Bruno is a family oriented town. As far as suburbs in the area, the only ones that will have a lot of singles would be Burlingame, San Mateo and towns south. The burbs of Daly City, San Bruno & South San Francisco are all pretty quiet, but very convenient places to live as they're close to the city and have lots of shopping (big box stores mostly).

I really enjoyed living in San Bruno. Had a condo at penninsula place, I would live there now if I could afford a house. I really enjoyed the weather, I don't like it when it is hot. I never cared for SF so I did not to there so I cannot really help with that.
