Just read on the your local CBS affiliate website that officials at SFO are arresting drivers participating in the rideshare program.

I'm pretty surprised about this.

Unlicensed operation of taxi-cab service. I'm glad they're cracking down on this. BTW, it sounds like they are citizen arrest, so I assume someone from a taxi company is the driving force behind the arrests (not sure if the police would otherwise take action).

A few weeks ago, I was arriving at SFO(dropping off a relative) and remember seeing a big passenger van being stopped by a bunch of law enforcement vehicles, siren lights ablaze, it was quite the spectacle. I learned from the mean curbside cops that it was an unlicensed shuttle bus.

Here is one article about it from KQED. If you google "sfo rideshare arrest" you'll find more. I understand wanting to make sure this is safe, but I think it's about Taxi companies not wanting the competition.

Of course they don't want any competition!

Generally speaking, cabs in SF are overpriced and hard to find, so it makes total sense there's people out there who are tired of it.

From what I've heard these are not legitimate services like Uber ... they are completely unlicensed. They could be serial killers for all anyone knows (of course licensed does not guarantee safety, but there are background checks).
