Hello...

I've searched all the threads and I wound up more confused than enlightened. I've been job searching for ages and finally scored a job in Brisbane but I want to live in the City (preferably a hip, fun area). What's the score with MUNI and BART to get to work and back?

I'm not sure what area I would live in as it's limited to my rent (~2000/mo) but I like Upper Haight and possibly somewhere in the Mission. I'm open to suggestions on which neighborhood is recommended.

However, the thrust of my question is how practical is it to depend on BART for my M-F commute into work. My new job offers shuttleruns from South San Francisco BART station and I don't mind a commute of an hour but anymore would be pushing my tolerance. Does anyone out there use BART to get to their work on a daily basis? I've love to sell my car and go without if it's possible.

Thanks for any insight!

BART is very reliable but very expensive. There's no such thing as a monthly pass, and they charge you a surcharge to go into San Mateo County (as you would be doing).

Where in Brisbane is it? The Samtrans 292 bus goes down Potrero and Bayshore into Brisbane, so you might consider that as an alternate. From the stop at Bayshore & Guadalupe you can take a free commuter shuttle into pretty much any part of industrial Brisbane. (broken link)

Is there anyone using BART EZ Rider Card?
Is it working without any problem?
Also is there anyway I can stop the autoload feature?

Hey, that's great thanks! I think this is the shuttle to which the company was referring. And it looks like the Samtrans bus will be a much cheaper alternative with monthly passes being $50. Much less than a BART monthly total of $170. Cheers!
Would probably still get a MUNI pass but for in-town City travel only.

If you're going in and out of San Francisco, you have to buy a slightly more expensive pass - $72 a month - but hold on. If that is the shuttle they were referring to, that changes matters.. because that goes from the Balboa Park station, which is in San Francisco. If you buy a MUNI fast-pass you can ride BART anywhere within San Francisco (from Embarcadero to Balboa Park) for no extra charge.

No problem.. I make it a point to know what my public transit options are in case I get sick and can't drive, or if heavy fog makes it too dangerous, or if an earthquake destroys a road, etc. They really try to make BART attractive to San Franciscans, and it shows in their ridership. And they wonder why the peninsula extension doesn't perform as well as they hoped.
