Not anymore. Burning Man has lots if hipsters these days too. And tech workers.

There are 70k people coming. It is no longer a 100 person event.

I am on my phone, please forgive the typos.

Everyone I knew who wouldn't shut up about Burning Man was a pseudo-hippie yuppie, the kind who's obsessed with smoothies and yoga and makes a good salary. I don't think the crypto-hipster Lanesplitter worker types or tattooed office workers would really care (or afford) to go as much, but those people are getting priced out of the Bay Area anyway.

When Bud Light is advertising for Burning Man, you know it's not the artist/pagan/drifter event it used to be.

I *might* be part of the target market for Burning Man. But my reaction to it is always: Barf. A bunch of self important, self absorbed yuppies wasting a lot of resources on a pointless exercise. What they do with their money is their business. Commenting on how vacuous and unimportant it is, that is my business.

OMG. My first thought was, you've got to be kidding. The city empties out to go sweat and stink and get stoned in the desert? Live without air conditioning? Where do you go to the bathroom? My memories of burning man was a hot, sweaty, stinky, uncomfortable time in the desert I quickly grew out of. As in I went once.

But the article above says they're now showing up in RV's? Good Lord. That's just too weird. I guess the hippy days are over. It's official.

I think the hate for Burning Man is a bit much. Of course there's going to be some annoying self righteous types that won't shut up about it, but I know lots of 'normal', friendly, down to earth people that either go yearly, or have been a few times, and they've got nothing but positive things to say about it. I'd actually love to go some day, but it just happens to fall during a week that's impossible for me to take off. Oh well. Maybe one day...
