Can anyone who moved here from the East Coast (DC) talk about how the people here are in comparison to the East Coast?

My observation is that people on the East Coast generally speaking tend to be more formal and more guarded emotionally. Bay Area is more laid back, friendlier, and more accessible. East Coast may be friendly, but it's more superficial. But others may disagree.

I grew up outside DC, and I've lived in the Bay Area since 07. People here are wayyyyyy nicer and friendlier. DC= workaholic one-uppers who are very materialistic and shallow. Of course not everyone is this way, but enough people are that I'd never want to move back.

I find both area's people to be friendly and tolerant. You're always going to have a bad seed now and then, but in generally both areas are friendly.

I would not put this area's friendliness over DC's. They're kind of on the same level. On any given day they may be off.

Totally disagree. The difference between regions is like night and day.

We'll all have our differing opinions. To me they're the same in terms of friendliness--that is, they're both very friendly. But I am a generally friendly person, so maybe I don't feel the unfriendliness as much as other folks

The only place I felt uncomfortable during my travels was Salt Lake City...

I think generalizations like this are truly stupid.

I think the majority of the US transplants are from the East Coast. We have become the East Coast.
