Hi all,

New to this , first time post!

May relocate to SFO early next year with wife and 1.5 year old. Looking to rent nice area for family life 3bd if possible as we will have numerous guests from Ireland!!

I am ok to travel 30-40 minutes e/w to SFO a day and would ultimately like a house or condo with garden area / nice grounds for our 1 year old to explore and play , local parks will also suffice.

Like the look of Burlingame , Foster City , San Mateo but have no notion of neighbourhoods , safe locations , etc. also doesn't have to be this side of bay Alameda looks good too.

We will be out in December to have a scout around so any advance info we can gather would be great.

Wife will not work , so needs to have recreational areas within walking if possible.

Budget circa 3K P/M.

I may have been over descriptive and also may have my head in the skies hoping to get above for budget but appreciate any pointers.

Many thanks.

San Mateo, Foster City, Burlingame are all great. Some of the nicest, if not the nicest areas in the Bay Area. They are really safe, so just choose your favorite place when you get here.

By SFO, do you mean the airport? I'm just curious because many people on this forum refer to the city of SF as "SFO". SFO is San Francisco International Airport, not the city of San Francisco.

This clarification could help others answer your questions better.

I don't think $3K will go far in Burlingame or San Mateo. I'd suggest looking at Millbrae, San Bruno or Pacifica, which is along the coast, but about a 15-20 minute drive to the airport.

I used to work near SFO (Oyster Point Biotech Row in South San Francisco), and lived in Burlingame. The commute was super easy (15-20 minutes)-and Burlingame is very nice/quiet and safe with a pleasnatl small downtown, very nice library etc, always felt safe there. Some of the best weather in the BA-ie not in the fog beltl, '70's pretty much all year around.

San Bruno and South San Francisco (I lived in SSF too) are kind of dumpy-and the fog is relentless

If you can afford it Burlingame would be a nice place for a family. Good luck

It will be very difficult to find a 3br home in Burlingame, Foster City or Millbrae for 3K per month. San Mateo, Belmont, San Bruno and San Carlos will occasionally has homes for rent at that price, but they go very fast.

The homes currently for rent in San Bruno are similar to this House For Rent, San Mateo's Westside home Kitchen Remodel Oak Floors Fireplace Stainless Apliances, San Carlos SAN CARLOS HOME

Alameda.

SF bay area apts/housing for rent classifieds - craigslist

Used to go to the beach in Alameda. It's really shallow and warm - safe for little ones.

Nice town. Nice farmer's market. Safe. I understand the schools are good, but you'd have to double check that. And within your price range.

Here's the Yelp search for businesses in Alameda:

We should point out that Pacifica and some areas south of SF will be in the fog belt some of the time. Some folks can't stand that unless they've lived in Oregon for a few years like I did.

That San Mateo house is in a good location but has an occupied, attached in-law unit, and you share the yard and laundry. The San Carlos house is in a somewhat industrial area, not the best location. There is a house in Millbrae on Craigslist for $2900. $3k/mo looks like it is on the low side for a 3 bedroom mid-Peninsula.

San Bruno has a fair number of options at that price, though.
