From my previous post... I will be looking at some great rental lofts in the Oakland area. Can anyone give me some advice on the safe areas of Oakland and what areas I should avoid?

Thanks

Why specifically lofts? If you're ok with a standard apartment, try the Rockridge area (as previously recommended on your other thread), which has a BART station for commuting to the city, and and nearby Elmwood, which is in south Berkeley (bordering on Rockridge). Montclair, in Oakland, is also nice, and may have a commuter bus directly to SF.

Yea almost any loft you look at will be in/near an unsafe area. That's just how Oakland rolls. You can generally tell how unsafe the area is by how tall and serious the loft security gates are.
