Right now I am temporarily living across the golden gate and have been taking the ferry from Sausalito to get into SF. It has been enjoyable however it take a very long time. I was thinking about just driving all the way into the city but how much does parking cost on average downtown? I saw one place near the ferry building that said $17 early bird special until 6 pm. Is that good? Street parking is not really an option I suppose because it has short time limits. Quite honestly I don't want to stress out parallel parking a big SUV on hills anyway. Any good secret easy places to park anywhere near market street or even north beach? Eventually I want to sell the car and live near a train line, but that's going to be for several months.

There are few lots in North Beach around Broadway/Columbus for about $10-12 during the day. FiDi is more like $30-40. South of Harrison is $10-15.

Meters are pretty limited, they have 1-2 hour limits if they exist and meters are $3.50 an hour.

I will cruise by the north beach area again and check again. I have not actually found a job yet so its good to know stuff life like that in advance. $30-40 a day is so insane but not really a surprise at all.

Yeah, it seems that the parking rates are in place to discourage people from driving into and parking in the city.

Parking is market rate. The bridge tolls are the congestion pricing mechanism.

The lot at Broadway and Front is popular with people in my office who use it on occasion when they need their cars. I believe it is the one that is $17 per day, but I have ever used it myself. Our office is near the Embarcadero Center, where I think it's $35 per day.
