I have lived in NYC where the public transit never stops. Now living in the bay area I noticed that the train stops at about 12:30am? How is one supposed to get home (after drinking) from a nightclub? Are taxi's the only option?

It's actually like this in most of the country. Boston, SF, etc. Sucks, but not every city has the luxury of being NYC.

Are you talking about getting home across the Bay late at night, or to a location on the same side as the Bay? Some of the local transit lines run later than BART. Check the schedules.

I usually have to take a cab. I admit that it's really frustrating at times having to leave a bar/restaurant in a hurry to catch that last train. I'll never understand why they can't run the train at least until the bars close.

I used to:

1/ Taxi
2/ Have a sober friend drive us
3/ Rent a hotel room beforehand
4/ Sleep in off in my car (in a safe area) until 6:00 AM or so
