Could you please advise whether it's possible to drive from San Francisco to Walnut Creek not going through the Caldecott tunnel? Is it possible to use the Old Tunnel Road?

Thank you for your help.

Michael

Old Tunnel Road feeds into 24 and the Caldecott Tunnel. You can take Claremont to Fish Ranch, otherwise it's the long way around via Hwy 4.

You can take Fish Ranch to Claremont. Won't likely save any time but it is much more scenic.

If you're worried about traffic the 4th bore will be open later this year, which will help the reverse commute.

Thank you so much for your quick response.
Let me ask a few questions to understand a little more.

1. Old Tunnel Road? It merges to 24. As far as I remember, exit to Old Tunnel Road is just before Caldecott tunnel. Does it mean that if I take this exit and follow Old Tunnel Road, I will merge to 24 without serious complications?

2. Claremont to Fish Ranch? Do you know which exit at 24 I should take to get to Claremont Ave?
Do I understand correctly that Fish Ranch Rd. goes in parallel to Caldecott tunnel and also merges to 24?

I am sorry to ask so many questions. I travel to Walnut Creek with children and don't like this terrible right Caldecott bore.

Thanks again

Michael

You should take the Claremont Ave exit to get to Claremont Ave.

The better idea is to take BART.

1. Old Tunnel Road won't do what you're trying to do, but that's the right exit - Fish Ranch Road is the other side and the direction that takes you to Claremont Ave. Basically, Claremont parallels 24 and goes over the hill, and then Fish Ranch Road goes downhill back to 24 past the tunnel.
2. Claremont Ave exit, which takes you through North Oakland and Berkeley.

Thanks again for your help. Just to clarify:

1. "but that's the right exit - Fish Ranch Road is the other side and the direction that takes you to Claremont Ave". What is the right exit: "Old Tunnel Road" or "Fish Ranch Road" ? Is there "Fish Ranch Road" exit from 24 which leads to Claremont Ave and then goes past Caldecott tunnel?

Or just straightforward: take Claremont ave exit from 24 and go along Claremont ave which merges to Fish Ranch Road and this Fish Ranch Road merges to 24 past Caldecott?

Again, thank you and sorry for all these questions.

Best regards

Michael
