Need a little help......been a while since I flew into SFO, I am getting in at 4:30 PM and need to pick up a car and then head to OAK to pick a family member up who gets in at 7 PM.

What is a realistic time to get from one airport to the other.......thanks ahead of time.

I am getting in on a weekday.

You'll probably need all of the time you've allotted.

You should be a little early. I would say that unless you are on an international arrival at SFO, (with the additional USCIS processing times) you should be at the SFO car rental area by 5:30 or so and heading into OAK and arriving between 6:15 to 6:30 PM.

Thanks to you both. I am flying in from the east coast.

If you don't have a lot of baggage, you can avoid the hassle of commute-time traffic on 101 and over the bridge by taking BART to OAK(one hour on the train then 15 minutes on the "Air BART" shuttle). Then just get the rental car at OAK.

OP, it is about a 30 mile distance from OAK to SFO. No traffic it is about a 30 minute drive. With heavy traffic, more like 60-80 minutes.

I was going to make the same recommendation. Good advice.

Youre probably going to need pretty much all the time you have allowed yourself, 5pm-7pm is pretty rough.

Hard to say since that is rush hour. Traffic delays are most terrible on 101 and 880.

You have the option of going:

1) Starting at 101 to 92 then 880; or

2) 101 to 80 then 880.

Expect your destination to be more than an hour. Have a safe trip!

I would take BART from SFO to OAK and then rent a car at OAK if needed. Just to get from arrival to a rental is an hour at SFO, and odds are your flight will be delayed. I travel to all Bay Area airports on a near-weekly basis.
