I currently live in Sonoma. Am interviewing for a job in Fairfield. I love wine country but the commute from Sonoma would get old if I got the job. I'm thinking ahead. American Canyon is still wine country and is only 20 minutes from Faifield. What's it like? I've never been there. Is it comparable to Sonoma?

It's a nice one highway town. I used to drive through it on the way to work at Wine.com
Peking Express - American Canyon, CA has great Chinese take out.

They have a reasonably good Walmart and yet still close to the more "artisinal" zones to the North. Best of both worlds in my book.

American Canyon does not feel like "wine country" at all to me. It's decent upgrade from Vallejo but it's basically newer subdivisions, some older subdivisions, and a few shopping centers. They are widening highway 12 between highway 29 and Fairfied so if you can afford Napa then that probably would be better if you want to live in wine country.

It's a quiet suburban area. Not much to say. Close enough to Napa, yet close enough to the highway.

Wouldn't suggest Napa to Fairfield only because there's really one way in and out (Hwy 12), which is a two-lane highway currently. Traffic backs up quite a bit.

my coworker grew up there and went to high school there, he said they were rednecks with lifted pickup trucks and Confederate flags. Maybe that has changed, I don't know. But he graduated like seveb years ago, so my guess is it hasn't.

Rednecks? Maybe another place, but I haven't seen Confederate flags in AC. It's a pretty diverse place with a LOT of Filipinos.

I live here and I personally think its a hidden gem! There is not much to the town city wise but it is very central to napa/solano/east bay. To me, it's one of the best areas for the price range. Good community, low crime rates, good location
Good luck!
