75-100 years? If china can do it in a manner of a few years, why should it take 75-100 years? Its already bad enuff this is a 20+ year project that probably isnt going to get built anyway now that your state has a severe drought and HSR has turned into a debacle.

Yes big things have been built in the US in shorter timeframes, but that was in the distant past..... we dont have the same will or desire to do such projects as we did back then.

Plus, our economy is in the toilet, with no hope of exit in the foreseeable future.

I loved the idea of HSR in california because the major cities here have the needed local public transportation networks. However, the routes chosen are idiotic and the environmental groups will make the project so messy, complicated and costly as we have already seen that it is not worth it! Let's just build more lanes to freeways.

No, owning a car in the bay area is a farce. This is a good idea with a bad execution.

Did you honestly think it would be executed well?

Ran out of money.

I've mostly been interested in the fare price for San Francisco-Los Angleles. When the estimated price went from $55 to $105, I lost most of my interest in it. If it can't do it more economically with billions of dollars in spending than an airline per passenger, there is no reason for it. Just get rid of the TSA screening garbage so you can get on a plane in 15 minutes like you used to. Saves money on TSA goons, saves money on expensive infrastructure. I'll take my chances with someone bringing a toothpick-sized toy gun on the plane.
