I've seen a lot of posts about San Francisco being famous for this wonderful crab, but not seeing mention of good places to actually eat it. We will be there in a month and this is something we are looking forward to eating. Any ideas? Thanks.

AHHH there are so many great places, but I prefer the Asian places.

Thanh Long - Roasted Crab (garlic-y), Drunken Crab (wine based) and Garlic Noodles

PPQ Dungenous Island - Roasted Crab (garlic-y), Peppercorn Crab (fried with salt and pepper), Drunken Crab (wine based) and Garlic Noodles

These places are excellent! I think Thanh Long has the edge over PPQ, but PPQ is cheaper. It depends on your budget, but both places are excellent and will beat anything in Fisherman's Wharf. These are very local SF and SF is the door way to Asia, so I would say these styles are more SF than your typical steamed with a side of melted butter. Definitely worth the trip via public transportation or Sidecar, Uber, Lyft, Taxi etc.

I just read this article last week or so---might be of interest for finding some of the best places for crab in the City. Not sure about Nob Hill though.

I was going to suggest R&G Lounge, which is not far from Nob Hill, but that article beat me to it.
