If anyone has any current knowledge of their school district's GATE program (or lack thereof), I'd love to hear about it. We are especially interested in two general areas in the BA...the triangle from Lamorinda-Walnut Creek-Danville, or South Marin (from Mill Valley up to around Fairfax). Thanks!

I managed to bungle my info via phone...so I'm sending on this little bit of information on a real working computer. I live in the Lamorinda area and have kids in the public schools but don't have specific knowledge on their GATE program, I found something here that might help a bit..

You may even want to join the Berkeley Parents Network (it's free) for more specific into this topic...

GATE programs vary greatly in the school districts, and within the schools themselves. We moved from the South Bay, where they didn't offer GATE programs since the schools were "so great" anyway, to the DV/Lamorinda corridor, where every school has their own idea of GATE. The testing is standardized, but each school district determines how they deal with the results and programs. Our current elementary school recognizes that there are GATE students and puts them in "clusters" in the classrooms. That's it. The school principal has said that any money that the school receives from the state for GATE students is used for the entire school body. The principal doesn't think that it is fair for only a select group of students to benefit from the money. The school does offer after school activities, but they are open for the entire student body.
