What Houston was that?

I told you where I lived in Houston and you made no comment or acknowledgement that it wasn't "Pasa-get-down-dena". Why is that such a bad thing anyway? My wife's grandparents lived their entire lives in Pasadena. They were the kindest, genuinely good people I've ever met. Her grandfather was quite worldly too--a Navy man and a veteran of WWII.

Offensive comments from a so-called "proud Texan".

But what I was saying before is that it seems like most people who love SF never come from actually big urban cities. Generally smaller towns. And thanks for actually admitting you love LA. There are redeeming qualities about SF, but cleanliness is NOT one of them. The overall package is just not good for me. For others it is. But the worst is when people move to SF and immediately jump on the bandwagon of hating LA when they've never even been there. My roommate from Seattle got drunk in a hotel in Long Beach once and now is apparently an expert on LA. She knows that it is for a fact all dirty, ghetto, and boring. Everyone from there sucks. Everything about LA sucks. Everything in SF is better. And I'm wrong for having a different opinion. Oh and her quote from today was that all of LA is just more ratchet than all of SF. Apparently all the wealthy areas of the Santa Monica Mountains and the beach cities are "ratchet". And she knows this from being drunk in a hotel in LBC. No one in LA walks around throwing out hate for SF. I don't see the need for it here the other way around.
It's all cool. Just be aware that, to me, a lot of what you say irks you about your friend and your roommate sounds like what you are saying about SF and the assumptions you are making about people who come here from other places. Furthermore, throwing out things like "please! LA>Dallas" sounds like exactly the attitude you find so repugnant (even though I happen to agree with you).

By the way, The only thing I hate about LA is the Dodgers. That's not some transplant affectation, either. I hated the Dodgers and therefor loved the Giants back in the days of the Astros playing in the NL West. SF is a far better baseball town than LA or Houston. I hate it when Angelenos move here and think otherwise...

I don't think Portland or Phoenix like it very much either.

I actually never had these feelings until moving here. I was tired of hearing the BS about LA being so terrible. That's how it's been actually. I took it for years from friends and acquaintances about how SF is so much better and LA sucks and all that stuff. I kept my mouth shut. Now I'm sick of it and since I'm moving I'm not afraid to speak my mind. Now everyone is in shock and thinks I'm stupid and annoying. They can't see the hypocrisy in it. Honestly, if people in SF didn't treat Angelenos the way they do, I along with many Angelenos that moved up here wouldn't have such terrible things to say about it.

Baseball and sports will always divide us haha. One thing though...LA has always loved the Dodgers. Growing up they weren't the best, but we loved them. SF generally loves the Giants too. But omg...after they won the World Series 2010 then all of a sudden everyone and their mother was THE biggest Giants fan ever! Before the 49ers won, not a single person talked about them. After they won everyone had 49ers jersey and shirts and jackets and scarves and hats and car stickers. Compared to LA, SF is big on bandwagoning from what I've noticed. Maybe other people have seen differently. Personally, I don't like the Clippers still. Lakers fan forever.

As long as we're keeping it scientific ... I know four people from Houston pretty well who live in the City and love it. I also know 5-6 others from Houston (through them) who live in SF and love it here. These are all people like me who moved by choice specifically to be in SF. Several moved without jobs.

I know a couple of people who moved from Houston to work in the Valley and don't really love living on the Peninsula. They don't hate it, but it's easy to get to work.

In my business, a lot of people come from places like New York, Chicago and LA. LOL at San Diego being a "major metropolis". People from those places in my industry consider a move to SF to be a huge bonus. I do know one person I worked with who was originally from Orange County, but worked in New York and Chicago before coming to SF. He loved it here, but his wife couldn't get over not being in Orange County, so they eventually moved back.

Calm down. I did not say it was a bad thing. I simply asked if you came from Pasa-get-down-dena.

I think you meant: "a proud Texan from Houston!"

Well, SF is a city of transplants--more so than just about any place I can imagine. The roots of the Giants run deep among natives, but they are really scarce. So, I can understand someone coming to this city and finding identity in a winning team. That said, the ballpark has been filled close to capacity since opening (which was 10 years before they won the Series).

I'm perfectly calm. I'm wondering about how you feel about saying something like that about me only to be shown that your assumption is wrong. Are you not able to see the parallel with the above conversation?

When you can't refute something logically, you attempt to divert the conversation and try to make it personal. You assumed I was trying to change your opinion. All I ever did was ask you to look around my neighborhood and tell me what you see that's "filthy".

Then, attempting again to divert, you implied that I never go outside my neighborhood. You made some remark about a neighborhood on the other side of the City. I showed you a place there that's even more pristine. Then, you said you weren't interested in my "reality" (which I assume means you were hoping I would indulge your fantasy) So, I showed you pics that cover about 1/4 of SF contiguously without one mention from you of what you found "filthy". Then, you hit me with the "Pasadena" thing.

So no, I'm not trying to change your opinion. I'm trying to understand an adult's -- and a pending graduate degree candidate's--thought process in being seemingly purposefully obtuse, baiting, avoiding and diverting within a thread whose subject matter she is known to detest.

Again, why come here? You have no interest in SF. You don't live here. You don't argue points substantively. You seem to make it personal, particularly with regard to me. You never answer anything I put forward to you. You insert yourself as a third party and try to play it of with "...just sayin'," addressing me instead of the topic. Why?

Sounds like Portland and Boston. Someone even told me they didn't think SD was that friendly to outsiders, even within the state.
