Can someone give me a run down on were to look for cheap housing. I know for sure I'm going to need a 1 or 2 roommates to survive as my budget is around $650 at max. But I've been looking on Craigslist for roommates/room shares and this seems do able. But I need an idea on what neighborhoods to lookout for and which are close to transit and metro stops, considering I don't have a car. I'm a 20 year old African american male.

Yeah, I've been on craigslist a lot and found so many affordable places, but I'm not to familiar with the neighborhoods.
I probably won't have one when I move there, but if the company I work for has an open position in that area I could possibly transfer. I didn't want to bring this up, because the negative and discouraging comments I would receive. But I'm moving here because I want to attend UC Berkeley's school of Engineering in the following year so I can pay instate tuition.

It's good you're going to UC Berkeley for engineering, a degree in that or something tech oriented would certainly get you a good foothold here in the Bay Area. Anyways, can you say where you're living or plan to (like, name the neighborhoods that most interest you?) Finding a job shouldn't be too hard for a Cal student anyways, at least not in Berkeley.

It's a fair question to ask but it's a difficult question to answer. There are too many neighborhoods that giving you a few names isn't conductive. Usually cheap = bad, so maybe you should let us know where these affordable place you've found are located. Then we can give you some idea what the area is like.

I'd also suggest you check out the BART map for transit locations.
