I'm getting tired of having to listen to different radio stations with the exact same playlists on the road.

So far, the best I've been able to find is Alice 97.3 and Live 105. That doesn't say a lot since they only air decent songs 5>% of the time.

My music tastes generally fall in the lines of alternative and indie with a general dislike of top 40 music. But I'm always willing to give other genres a try, so slug it out!

If you're into indie, it's trouble. Alice 97.3 comes on in my friend's car and makes my ears bleed, so I definitely don't recommend that.

I listen to XM Radio most of the time, but I switch to AM/FM on Sunday night for 98.1 KISS FM's Sunday Night Oldies (after 7PM). All the other hours of the week, that's a crap radio station, so beware.

103.7 plays some decent oldies/Motown, as well.

I know you didn't specifically ask for that, but I think you probably would appreciate the nostalgic threads from the past since you're also into indie and probably have a higher music IQ than most.

My best music recommendation, though, is XM. The Iphone App includes Bluetooth so you can get it anywhere and XMU 35 is right up your alley along with 49 Soultown, maybe 6 for 60's - my 3 favorites.

Good luck.

For me:

KCSM - 91.1 for jazz
KFFG (KFOG) - 97.7 for rock
KUFX(KFOX) - 98.5 for rock
KOSF - 103.7 for oldies

I would second XM/Sirius. For years I loved Live105, but in the last few years its gotten really repetitive with a very limited playlist. With XM/Sirius, you get multiple alt rock channels, current, 90's, 80's, etc and no commercials to boot.

KCEA (89.1) is a good big band station, but with a weak signal out of Menlo Park. I wonder how much longer it will be around, because I imagine its primary listener base is getting quite old.

KUSF ... back in the day.

Also, from those thrashing times:

KALX
KFJC
KSCU

A few of those still exist and even have some good shows once in a while ...
