Hi, I have to be at Loma Rd above San Carlos for 5.30pm on Monday. Any idea how long it will take to drive from the middle of San Francisco?
I can't take Caltrain as I have a large musical instrument to carry.
Also any tips on the best route at that time - 280 or 101? An places I should definitely avoid?
Many thanks!

I would highly recommend taking 280 at that time of the day. You could exit Edgewood and work your way over to Brittan Ave.

Exactly what street will you be taking in SF to get to 280? This would help estimate your time to get to San Carlos.

Thanks for your time, I'd be starting Divisadero/Jackson St.
Google maps says go to the 101 then 280 but driving through downtown at that time sounds like a recipe for disaster. What do you think?Cheers

Well you would only be on 101 for a hop skip and a jump to 280 if you were to go that route. But at that hour of the day it is a miserable crawl to get from 101 to 280.

Alternatively if you could find an easy route to 19th Ave that takes you straight to 280.

Once you are on 280 it should take you no more than 30 minutes to reach the Edgewood Exit. You can take Edgewood to Crestview to Brittan then to Greenbrier Rd then to Loma Rd.

280 is a beautiful drive as well.

Are you going to be playing in a band at one the establishments in San Carlos?

Do you need to be at Loma by 5:30 or are you planning on leaving SF at 5:30?

If you are leaving at 5:30 take 280 all the way and avoid 101 at all costs.

I have to be at Loma for 5.30.
When I say I'm carrying a musical instrument, it may be open to interpretation as I'm taking an accordion lesson. Not quite up to performing yet, but at least the tunes are recognizable!
Sounds like heading along GG park to 19th and 280 is the least stressful way to go.
Thanks very much for your advice, I appreciate it!

Yeah, Geary and 19th Ave is probably the way to go. I go to Belmont and the San Carlos highlands often and usually take 101, but that's because I am going at odd times and don't have to contend with traffic congestion. If I have to go at peak hours I always take 280.
