I agree with you 100%. We moved up to Danville from the Silicon Valley about 6 months ago and this was the best decision we could've made. It is wonderful here. Commute is long, but overall the quality of life is much better than we experienced in the valley.

As for Marin, the places that I think are truly special (Sausalito, Tiburon, possibly Ross) are ridiculously expensive. If you're not a multi-millionnaire, you're not going to afford to live well in those areas. There are other places a bit further north that are nice, but I don't think they're any nicer than the tri-valley. They may be as expensive, or with subpar schools and a worse commute.

If I could afford to live like a multi-millionnaire in Tiburon, there would be no contest. For the rest of us mere mortals, I think the quality of life is a little better in the tri-valley.

The countryside, coast & forests of Marin county are absolutely beautiful!

In all honesty though as others have mentioned it is a hierarchy to actually live in. There isnt much or any working middle class anymore & it is very smug, pretentious & pretty lame socially. I know some cool people there but as a whole its 90% smug, 10% normal these days. In live on the peninsula now & I like it much better but the cost of housing is absolutely off the charts, if I ever have to move from my current place here I'm probably priced out for good: ( Temecula here I come! Lol

PS. Santa Rosa isn't really dangerous, hahaha, seedy in spots but most places with that high a population are. It is howerever IMO way overpriced for how long it takes to get in & out of SF though & for what the jobs there pay. It does have a very large Hispanic population for NoCal too if that bothers you.

Native-born, well-educated Hispanics who are similar to me, i.e. their families have been here for generations and speak English regularly (and there are many Hispanics who fit this description), are welcome in my home. Hispanic gang members (native-born or illegals) are not.
