Is Hayward street D and 7th a nice place to live? (Castro Valley: apartments, rental)

Hi, looking to move into this Hayward area. Not familiar with Hayward and would like to ask if the street D and 7th street till San Felipe park is good area? Many people have different understanding of living. What I am looking into is a nice place to LIVE (not shopping, not eating out) where you are not afraid that neighbours can rob/damage you or your property. In other words looking for a nice community around.

You would be better off looking at San Lorenzo or if you have more money, Castro valley if you want the community feel.

One mans safe enough is another mans omg I'm gonna die. It just depends on what you are comfortable with.

yesterday I drove to that area and it looked not bad, newer houses and apartments for rent. lots of trees, park.
I like that particular area, rest of Hayward is not what I would like to consider.
so trying to see if my thoughts are right.
I hope community there is according to their external appearance

prices cheaper than on peninsula but I have to drive to san mateo to work, and if later I will find a job toward to san jose, it may be harder to get there.
but rental prices in palo alto/san mateo area skyrocketed: decent 1 bedroom is $2000-$2500.

so I calculated and commute to work may be less expensive..
in anyway still can not come up with right decision.

thinking to buy something with total mortgage up to 2k /month

Hayward is a small city with too much dang traffic, it's almost ridiculous and unbelievable. Stay out of Tennyson, W a street, and you should be ok. To answer your question, I wouldn't live on D and 7th. But just because it's a shady area.

Want my advice? Move elsewhere unless necessary. Hayward isn't scary like people make it out to be. But there is nothing really here. We do however, have very many outdoor places to go here, and it is centrally located.

Try the Baywood area of Castro Valley, between Redwood and Foothill, Grove and the BART station. If you have no kids that area is a lot more affordable because it's in the Hayward School District, close to Hayward but much nicer/quieter.

Personally, of places in Hayward, I feel like that area has tons of potential. Easy access to BART and Amtrak. Close to downtown.

But now that the horrible Hayward Loop opened up, it really killed the potential walkability of downtown, so it is no longer on trend, and headed a bit in the wrong direction in terms of walkability and such.

I have heard it is a little sketch, but in terms of amenities in walking distance it is ideal. And it isn't that horrible.
