Translation: yeah we like our 11 dollar beers, we're not trying to look cool. We are too cool to notice that or the fact that you all are too materialistic to realize you spent 80 bucks on a cotton shirt. The difference is we know we are overpaying for a drink and we like it!

I'm a gay dude, and no, I don't have a problem with women. Your posts make you sound like a chick though. Sorry.

Is that supposed to be an insult?

No. Therefor, it comes off as pretentious.

Look, I know you have some kind of personal problem with me. I'm not sure why and I don't care. But your baseless contrarian posts in my direction just for the sake of being argumentative are silly. You are the one who stated that LA is a "d-bag scene" with your toast comment (saying it's 'the same' in SF) when I said I always encounter nice people in LA.
Interesting, my boss who owns in SF and is a native uses the term "the industry" all time, when talking about video games. According to you, that makes him not suited for SF. Okay, that makes sense, lol.

I'm not sure when you woke up and decided you were an authority on SF, LOL.

I don't have a problem with you at all, I just don't agree with you. SF is very superficial, it is just of a different variety.

Sf is more superficial/snotty than LA, on a whole. Most of LA is brown, working class, and very laidback.

If you disagree, it is no skin off my back.

To stereotype, the Bay Area is pretentious about sourcing and how stuff is produced (and experiences). SoCal is pretentious about brands.

How many times do I have to say how much I like the people I've met and the time I've spent (lots of time) in LA? I never said vapid. What I said was that there are lifestyle nuances that differentiate the vibe in the two places. Conspicuous consumption is one of them. The basis of the different drivers of the economies, both in terms of the people they attract and the values they promote is another difference.

SF is a much smaller sample, and thus, is much easier to distinguish.

I do believe it's very different here from Los Angeles. As was noted, LA has a large blue collar sector. The Latin influence is also much more prevalent. SF is walled off by water on three sides and a 40-mile wall of tech companies and pretty homogenous thinking on the fourth side. Is it hard to imagine the place would develop a different and quite distinct vibe from a place where boundaries are not as clearly defined?

If you take the larger Bay Area into account, things start to get a little more level, but I still believe Northern California is very different from Southern, and I greatly prefer Northern California.

I explained this already. Someone who is in an industry -- any industry -- speaking to others in that industry can use the term "the industry" without fear of sounding pretentious. It's when outsiders to Hollywood try to affect Hollywood terminology that they start sounding like the poseurs about whom you so enjoy "LOLing". By the way, as a person who writes and produces commercials in LA, hiring LA directors and crews all the time, I am "in the industry" and cringe when I hear pompous people in my line of work throw terminology around like that, referring to the entertainment industry.

Please elaborate on how SF is superficial and snotty. I'll grant you a small amount of derision I've sensed directed at those who live outside the City -- particularly down the Peninsula or in the East Bay, other than Oakland and Berkeley--but that's more about sympathy for long commute times and uninteresting locales. Otherwise, I don't get it.

How is SF superficial and snotty? Well, if there was a way you could google your own attitude, that would probably be a good place to start. :x
