And you think every person in Nor Cal is granola? That wasn't even true in the 60s. SF proper may be understated like many big cities, but if you want tan girls with too much makeup and boob jobs, just go to Walnut Creek or Santana Row on a summer weekend. You can see all types of people in every city in the world if you open your eyes.
Even here in the inner Peninsula areas (e.g. within 20 miles of downtown). Had a neighbor that was the cosmetic surgeon's best friend.

From a guys pov, SF doesn't really have the stylish, trendy, fashionable type attractive women you would find in LA/SD (I am NOT referring to the super plastic fake t!ts look with platinum blonde hair). Pretty depressing since that's the type I go for and when I moved up here a year ago I thought there would be more of them given it being a very young successful persons city.

If you like asians, plain jane, tech hipster or liberal hippy girls then this place has plenty of those. If you want the girls that know how to dress well and are good looking then good luck. Try the Marina because the 10 of them that live in the city go out there.

I think in the year that I've been here I've seen maybe 10 or 12 girls that I would actual label hot and match the standards you would find in socal girls.

The weather and culture of SF doesn't attract those really good looking women (obviously there are some but they are few and far between here) you would find down south. Makes the dating scene really rough if that's the type of woman you are into like I am.

I can't speak for how it is for women looking for the male equivalent (since I'm not into dudes) but I would assume it is similar just based on what I have seen in the guys here.

.
Back when life was more formal and the dress code hadn't ramped down to permanent casual Fridays, there were a lot more sharp dressers in SF. I'm told that dressing up to go downtown used to be a thing. There still are sharp dressers in the FiDi, among the lawyers and stockbrokers, and such. But that's during work hours. And the East Bay has always been low key.

This whole conversations seems very superficial to me. Guys who are looking for women based on these criteria are only looking at the surface, the make-up, the glitz. They have a right to do that, of course, but it is rather disgusting to me. I suppose the girls who are putting that out there and the guys who lap it up deserve each other.

I posted this before, but I'll say it again--this is why I like NorCal. Generally, it's not about glitz, it's about substance.

When this is said I'm not sure I understand considering I see more High Model BMW's, Tesla's, AMG Mercedes, Range Rovers and just about other 80k-6 figure car riding around the city. People do care about glitz. Maybe not back 30 years ago but they sure as hell are Flashy with all that now.

There is that element, but there's tremendous diversity. I don't see a lot of flash in Berkeley and Oakland. There are enclaves of that, but in the cities as a whole, I don't see it. The women I see are laid back and not into chasing money. Maybe it's my age demographic. Maybe the glitzier classes are 35+. You can bet the university scenes don't have BMW's, Mercedes, and Teslas! There's a huge diversity of niches in the East Bay. I can see how the Peninsula and Marin would be very different.

There's a lot of truth to this thread. I cannot count how many times guys here have complained about the attitudes of girls. "They are 6's that think they are 9's".

Since moving here I have learned to dress down more often. When I wear a nice dress and heels to go out for dinner or just running errands people stare at me (so the husband says), and I'm no show stopper. It's funny how apparently girls wear less makeup here when the weather is mild enough to wear it without smearing/melting off your face.

I wear dresses and skirts all the time. Many people mistake it for dressing up! Things are very very casual here! We have also somehow defined dress as fancy by default. The prevalence of casual casual workplaces doesn't help matters.
