I'm looking for a public place in San Francisco where I could have a low-key potluck with a small group of friends. Usually we go to a park, but since it's entering rainy season I'd like to see if I could find a public outdoor space with an awning or cover or a public indoor space. Something along the lines of The Atrium at Mission and 2nd, which would be perfect except that it is closed on weekends. I'd also be open to suggestions in the Oakland / Berkeley area if theres nothing suitable in SF.

I'd also be open to a suggestion of any coffee shops cafés that would likely have space for a small group on a weekend, that would be ok with bringing in outside food. (We'd all buy a coffee while there to support the café of course.)

I've been racking by brain for some suggestions, but I'm kinda coming up empty. Have you thought about buying one of those huge easy to assemble canopies that people use for camping/beach parties? You could use that just about anywhere---then you could choose any location that you like.

One can reserve the covered picnic pavilion in Mountain Lake Park. This is a great location in the Richmond area of SF. Look at the third pic from the left for a view of the pavilion.

Thank you capoeira! The covered picnic area at Mountain Lake Park is exactly the sort of thing I was looking for.
